Wood prices

I was talking with a customer today who has a Central Boiler outdoor wood eater. He came in to find out if I could do a fuel cost comparison between LP for his furnace vs. wood. His yearly consumption of wood totals about 25 pulpwood cords (4'x4'x8') and the local loggers have all just raised their prices to just under double what it was a month ago. 10 cords, delivered used to be $450 and most of the timber savages are now upwards of $750. Figuring the labor of cutting the wood into useable size lengths and constantly filling the wood eater, the LP didn't look like such a bad deal to him. Even at today's prices.
Who said burning wood was cheap?

45-75 per cord?????? Come on where is this??? Around here you are looking at 185-245 per cord!!!!!!!!!! Been that way for a few years now.
45-75 wouldn't really qualify as savagry.

prices
I had a guy who sells hardwood cordwood tell me 2 weeks ago that he got $250 for a cord. That is pretty high but I think it is an indicator of where prices are going. Average in our area is about $150 right now (central PA). I'll keep on burning corn at 2.40 a bushel, thank-you!

The old days...
My brother and I spent countless hours cutting, splitting, stacking, and hauling wood for my dad and our wood burning forced-air furnace. Dad was very good about harnessing teenage vigor to accomplish the task at hand. There was always a farmer somewhere in Nebraska with a fence line to clear of trees. I wish he could have also harnessed all of the methane we produced along with the cords and cords of wood.
It was a good days work and I must say, I miss it at times. It was good for clearing out the cob-webs in my head and just working hard and sweating with out thinking about management, sales, or personell issues. Dads LP bills were miniscule even with todays standards. Still are in fact, his wood furnace is still running after 25 years. Did I mention dad was a tinner and scorched air guy. Oh the irony.

I think he's talking pulpwood (soft) vs hard wood.

High dollar fire wood!!!!!
My neighbor just bought I think the most expensive fire wood in the lower 48 states. You probably already know what happened. While cutting down a tree in the front yard. Yes the power line came down to. You can just think of the posibility where you could take that one. a) homeowner cuts down front yard tree to heat house and save money. b) just wanted to see big blue truck.0
