Riello service

We recently installed a Buderus G-215 boiler with a Riello burner for a client that is some distance away from our location. All parts and service are guaranteed for a year as usual and we recommended that they have the company who usually cleans and services their old system continue the current service contract.

It turns out that the burner service company will not clean or service a Riello and neither will the local oil company. After some searching we found a company who will do the cleanings but will not commit to a service contract because of the higher costs of Riello parts. Riello’s are pretty common for us and we thought they were for the rest of the industry. Have you guys encountered any reluctance to work on Riello’s before or are these isolated incidents?

    riello

Oh yeah. Something new and different makes a lot of technicians afraid. The real problem is the lack of desire to get trained on advancing technologies. Have a lot of experience with Riello burners, all I've ever changed on one other than maintenance parts is one pump and one post purge card. I would think someone would be happy to accept a Riello on a service contract...it's so damn reliable. So charge a little more and get trained...it ain't rocket science.

    Riello

Man, I would love to have all Riellos for my contracts! Talk about coming out ahead. I just don't understand that, they have been sold here for 25 years. What is the big deal??

    Maybe really

the service company is so honest they don't want to take your money because they have never had one break down yet! They are just that good. I could not resist that one. I would give a service discount if the unit had a Riello mounted on the thing.

    Afraid of the Unknown

It was common for service techs to bashed Riellos years ago, for fear of unknown. I am suprised you can still find a whole area where they all have that mind set.

I have been installing them since the MAC series , but to be honest ........if say a pump coil or a cap went bad . I would be sitting on the basement floor with the training manual trying to figure out the problem. They don't fail often to become a crackerjack....

The problem I could see is from a parts changer. You know one that changes parts until fixed....

    amazing

Whenever I order a new boiler I always buy the Riello option. They are sinple, reliable, and easy to service.

This is a bone of contention w/ me also, and I always try to find a service company familiar with my proposed equipment before I propose a job out of my area. How far are we talking... I can't remember the last time I had an emergency call on a riello burner that I regularly service.

In fact the only problem I had so far was a bad control box after 12 years in service. Other service calls were when the tank ran out of oil and Oil Delivery guy afraid to touch the Riello burner, etc.

    Sad State of Affairs

My friends in the biz in the NorthEast tell of lack of training for many oil service techs. Seems most techs have experience with only Beckett or Carlin burners. Training must be at an all time low.

Riello, Hansa and the Viessmann chassis burner may seem daunting to the newbies, but their actually easier to install, tune and service. Their reliability and efficiencies are superior.

I can't understand why hydronic service technicians wouldn't want to learn how to maximize combustion efficiency with 'newer' technologies. With a fuel crisis staring us directly in the face, those who learn that better burners mean less fuel costs, will have an increased edge on the competition.

Burner technology should be taught by John Barba...maybe then we'd see less "dumb as a cork" burner techs.

George Lanthier's Riello Handbooks are extremely easy to follow and grasp. Maybe someday we'll see all burner training done on DVD, with parts breakdown for all burners on one disc?? As to mastering burners...gotta practice and learn, practice and learn.
No offense to those who have already invested in the training for euro burners. JMHO.

    service

Thanks for your responses guys. We have decided to service the product ourselves even thought it’s a ways away. We are confident that the Riello will not cause us any problems anyway, and that the only problems would come from hacks trying to service something they don’t understand. It’s too bad, however, that few techs will work on these great burners.
