What type/brand of PEX?

What kind or type of PEX should I use for baseboard heating i.e. interconnecting copper fintube from room to room or making homeruns from fintube to the boiler?

Operating temps to 180* maximum. Should teh PEX be able to stand 200* to be safe?

PEX AL PEX? Other ???

Brand(s) that are good? Brand(s) that I should avoid?

TIA,
Phil

  • Definitely use PEX-AL-PEX. It expands less, but remember it does expand so with high temperature delta-T's and longer runs, use expansion loops!

Lots of good brands out there.

    PAP all the way

I've used Wirsbo MultiCor without any problems, also Kitec. I recently tried the Viega FostaPex, it has an extra PE outer layer and full size pex inner tube. Seems very durable, especially for slabs.

I like the new crimp fitting offered by Wirsbo and Viega. A sturdy, good looking stainless ring. The white tube is the Wirsbo.

Wirsbo and Rehau are a couple brands that I like. It should be PEX A (aka Engel Pex). There are three ways to accomplish the cross linking thus A/B/C Pex. The PexA has the highest percentage of cross linking and therefore is stronger and more flexible.

  • If you use regular PEX to feed high temp baseboards.. make sure you're calculating for and accomodating expansion!! 1.1"/10deg temp rise/100 feet. racks up fast!
