and you don't see water anywhere else, and the boiler hasn't been running, that's almost certainly where the leak is. The reason is that the pipes corrode from the outside as well as the inside.

    Steam Heating System Problem

I have a steam heating system that slowly leaks water, There is no water around the boiler area. I have had a coiple of plumbers in but they can not agree on the problem. One plumber wants to pressure test the boiler to see if there is a leak another one says the prob;em is in the return piping (I believe I have a one pipe system) and the water is flowing out of the return pipe.

    Who do I listen to?

    Thanks for any help.

I have a steam heating system that slowly leaks water. In about seven weeks I have lost five inches of water in the viewing tube. There is no water around the boiler area. I have had a couple of plumbers in but they can not agree on the problem. One plumber wants to pressure test the boiler to see if there is a leak another one says the problem is in the return piping (I believe I have a one pipe system) and the water is flowing out of the return pipe. He wants to test the piping.

    Thanks for any help.
