couple things
Would this be your only gas product at your house? That of course will set your pricing. I can tell you from personal experience that I will NEVER go back to an electric dryer. 2 month's ago my 12 year old electric quit. That was after having replaced the elements twice. Since that time I have cut my electric bill $20 buck's a month and my drying time in half. I work for a gas company and set my own tank, when it was set it had 15 gallon's in it. I have not had it filled yet just to see how long it will go. And my house has 2 kids who love to get dirty...Do yourself a favor though and buy a good product. I see alot of cheaper unit's both gas and electric that die very quickly, as they say you get what you pay for...0 -
Monday washday, and nothing else to think about
Hi to you too. My summer is winding up just fine.
We have both an electric and a gas dryer. Our power is much more expensive than yours and we have natural gas, which is much cheaper than propane. So for me, running the gas dryer is cheaper, so far. For your case, I am not sure which will be cheapest, they might be similar.
Plus your electric utility is encouraging you to use more than 700 kWh to get the good rate.
Commercial laundries use natural gas, so this choice must be the best. Note though, that electric rates for businesses are most often much higher than residential rates.
As far as performance, they both do the same. The electric dryer on high seems to go somewhat faster. Its hard to be objective. What I have clearly noticed is that the electric dryer leaks a whole lot more heat into the laundry room than does the gas dryer.
The heat comes off the electric coils on the back that warm up the back panel probably just as much as they warm the clothes. It is too hot to touch. The gas dryer does not do this. The flame is all contained in the air admission tube. Also, the electric coils take up a larger area than the burner tube does, so with more skin there is more loss.
Also, the electric unit gives off a burnt dust smell when you switch to high after a period of being on low setting. Its the sort of smell that makes me sneeze. The gas unit does not do this.
I like the gas unit better.
Both units were brand new in the late 80s, both were the basic models with no bells and whistles, both are running fine including the automatic humidity detector.
Shall we talk irons and ironing machines next?0 -
thanks guys i plan on buying a good one and will spend at least $1000.00 but still not sure what would be cheaper to run i don't have natural gas i could get LP and will use that if you all think it's cheaper then using my electric
