traps anywhere from 50-70 years young that were still working. Fix them when they go bad. If you have a lot that are bad, the newer stainless-steel elements (which Hoffman does make for the 17C) are a good investment. These thread into the lower part of the trap body.

Just finished reading Lost Art.. and counted 24 Hoffman 17C traps on the radiators. Am I really looking at replacing them every 3 to 5 years!!! $40.00 x 24 x 5 = way too much over my expected ownership.
