Why is it that if you have a strickly gas burner, you get a better efficency then if you use an oil/gas burner fired in the same boiler?
We are talking a HB SMITH 28 A boiler that is set up for steam. I don't think that should make a difference. Also, anybody have problems with the smith leaking between th esections. We regasked the boiler because two were leaking and now we have 5 more. The sections are tight but there is a noticeable gap.

Get in touch with Smith tech support

I think they have fixes for both problems.

There should be no difference in the efficiency of a gas burner and a gas/oil burner firing gas if that is what your question is. Wether the burner is a Power Flame, G & P , Webster etc it's pretty much the same burner.

As far as section leaks contact the Smith rep as Steamhead suggested. I think they redesigned the gaskets. The only one I saw that leaked had cracked sections do to the installer not using a torque wrench as Smith requires and the draw rods had been overtightned.
