It will be better.

We are Americans.

In spite of all the political crap, and in the face of ANY adversary, we will prevail.

God bless those poor souls.

May we all rise up and make a better place for the future.
Yes, the world IS watching.

    Driving the highway

In Atlanta, we have a ring highway called I-285. I was driving between service calls and I saw a convoy of electrical utility trucks heading west. They all had either Maryland or Delaware plates on the trucks and vans. I assumed that they were heading to the Katrina ravaged Gulf Coast.

I waved at them and gave them the thumbs up. These guys are headed into some real hard work for the next few weeks.

    God bless them.

    Same on I-10 eastbound.

I was returning home on I-10 yesterday (thursday) after re-taking the damn hiring test to go back offshore (passed :)
I stopped to help an (evacuating) elderly couple in a broken down truck. I found it had a bad alternator, and got wrecker for them. It's under warranty and a dealer was only 10 miles away. While I was stopped, there was Convoy after convoy of electric utilty trucks from the great states of TX, NM, AZ, CO & more coming down from our ARK friends.

Then there followed at least 60 Army high-wheeled vehicles with salvage equipment, generators, mobile hospitals etc' etc.

At least 40 fully loaded coaches taking folk west to the Astrodome in Houston.

I came across $2.37 gas in Iowa, (Ioway) LA. & took a pic. I'll figure out a way to post it (still getting used to my new camera & photoshop)

On the flip-side, two local gas station owners were escorted out of their businesses, and shut down (temp') for charging $5.00/gal. Law enforcement said they weren't going to tolerate this kind of thing, and meant it.

    Things are improving....slightly and slowly.

Must go clean my house and pick up Autumn for the weekend.

    Later, Brian.

    That's awesome

And it's exactly what it's going to take to get all these people long term housing in something other than a refugee camp of some type. They are going to be able to go back, or have anything to go back to for a long time.

PS: My brother in law who owns the dairy supply business here just lost his route truck driver to the Nat'l Gaurd. He ships out for NO on Sunday. They told him to plan on 6 months or longer deployment in the area. Nice weather for the winter I guess. Not so nice work.

every spare lineman is going down there

Everyone says how long it will take to get things back to normal.. Dopn't count on it. Most of that city will be up and running alot quicker than most people are figuring on. Some pretty large sections were not touched by flooding 'cause the mississippi dikes were not breached. It will be interesting to see the one year anniversery report we all know is coming. The scammers and scum will do there dirty work, but so will the go getters and up and commers. Going to be some great stories come out of this

    I read

I read in the paper we sent 55 utility crews from Ct. to help. There is a trailer truck parked in just about every shopping mall nearby taking donations. I heard of one guy who spent a lot of money to fill one of the trailers, he had other people helping him shop.

EMT's and fireman and police men from CT are also on there way.

I am too young to know much about the CCC or TVCCA but I know they did a lot of good work that still stands today.

I think we need to find something for these people who were displaced by Katrina to do. 10,000 people sitting in a sports arena with nothing to do. Put'em to work, it may take their mind of the trouble by helping others. I know it works for me.
