Ceiling Radiant
Here are the "before" photos of this replacement system we did last week. The house was built for the former Senator Broyhill in 1947 and is located in the Country Club Hills section of North Arlington, VA. The original house and wing addition are both heated with a ceiling radiant system using 3/8" od copper pipe in the plaster ceiling.

\"after\"
We used two Vitogas 100's and two motorized 4-way valves controlled by a Vitotronic 300 control. A Vitocell 300 provides DHW. None of the copper mains or loops in the attic were insulated. We insulated all accessible piping. -DF

Believe it or not, the old Sarco-Therms were still functioning!

Thanks
Thanks, Paul. The boilers are set up lead/lag. I'll be curious to see how many hours the lag boiler runs next winter. -DF

Dan,
We did a couple of oil fired units in the local fire station a couple years back and used a Tekmar staging/outdoor reset control.(the number escapes me at the moment 360 maybe?). When I went back for some service work, I delved into the control feedback deeply and found that after almost a year and a half, the boilers had fired to within 15 hours of each other. We had the rotations set to 72 hours.
Nice work. I was going to ask what the mixer brand was. I think I saw it on my first radiant replacement. The owner worked in the shipyard, and the entire system was built from monnell(sp.) tubing heisted from the yard day by day. Brazed joints throughout, and I bet the stuff will outlive me by 2 generations.
Don't forget to ask them to track the fuel usage in the coming heating season!!! This could be your biggest and best selling tool to date. Chris0 -
Just a note...
You may want to reverse the Vitotronic 300 computer to the other boiler every other year, as the control does not "rotate" the boiler after each firing. That way, each boiler has similar run times. It may not make much difference....??? Viessmann should offer "boiler rotation" in the control settings. JMHO. Paul
