He wont have to worry about that happening with the guy behind him having a plate under the carb, he'll be the only one going 220. It won't take 2 laps to get to speed either. EJW

    Is anyone watching.....

The Formula One race from Indy?

One of the 2 tire manufacturers made a crappy product, and it is used by a majority of the teams, so the race has basically been thrown in by them.

This is going to make the teams look like those tires in the eyes of the fans, which number in the top 3 watched sporting events in the world.

The American fans are proving themselves to be a pile of whiny fans by throwing things on the track and endangering the remaining drivers lives by doing so.

Good golly, what a mess! Chris

    You dont get

whiny fans at a NASCAR event like in F-1 (unless the beer runs out). I used to watch F-1 until all the races were fixed to let the golden boy Schumacher win all the time. It became boring because you always knew who was going to win. I'm loving this year though and may actually watch a race since Schumies been DNF'ing. I'm LOVING that. I'd pay to see him drafting down the backstretch at Daytona at 220 mph with someone one inch from his bumper. That would separate the men from the boys. It wouldnt be anti freeze coming out the back of his ride if you know what I mean. Too many right hand turns in F-1. Go fast.... Turn left. So much for F-1 in the states. That should take care of that.

Sad day for F1 USA fans........

    Chris,

If I paid big bucks for a motel, food and F1 tickets and had to watch a race of 6 cars I would be very upset too. I think fans in Europe would even throw stuff on the track if it happened in Europe. Michelin screwed up big time. Michelin may have cost us in the USA a F1 race. I don't think F1 will be back next year. Its a sad day, I love F1 racing but it will be hard to convince any of my friends to watch it with me from now on.

    John and Tommy,

John, I think you may be right. The "debacle" that ensued was like the FIA shooting themselves in the foot. Maybe the powers that be will consider moving the USGP/F-1 race back to Monterey. (much better track if they made it safe enough)

Tommy, I could not agree with you less. NASCAR races that I watch (2 per year) are Watkins Glen and Sears Point. It makes those rednecks have to think all of a sudden. OH NO, A right turn!!!!If the other teams did what Ferrari has done in the last 6 years as far as tecnology breakthroughs, it wouldn't have been the Shuey show that it was. Like most motorsport, there seems to be waves. One team will win for a while, then someone else will figure it out and excel at something else.Think Honda in the 80's. They won as much as Ferrari has and noone seems to remember that.BTW, Shuey has only 1 DNF this year, Has only 3 podium finishes so I guess he's no longer the golden boy eh.

Bill Nye has the perfect acronym for NASCAR, but I can't remember it. C'mon Bill ....enlighten us.

As for F-1, I will continue to watch and dream of the day when the rules commitees are finally and forever overridden and it goes back to what it should be....the pinnacle of motor racing. No limits, run what you brung and all the more goodies you have that the other teams don't will make the sport and technology move forward.

For all the uninitiated, this is where all of the computers that keep your car running and stopping as safely as it does came from. The safety features such as "crumple zones and limiting slip or wheelspin " are all direct decendants of formula 1 technology.Chris- The motor racing technology junkie.

I'm just waiting for Scott Speed...................

There are a few good road racers over here in the good old USA. I too would rather watch road racing instead of circle track.

Daytona is easy. If you take away all of the cars like in a qualifying lap then it is rather boring. A driver might as well light up a cigerate to pass the time while driving. No shifting or braking. No accelerating too, just mash the pedel. Yuck! give me Watkins Glen any day. I like the short tracks like Bristol. Alot of bumping and banging. You have to use your brakes too!

Not so in a road racing circuit, you have to pay attention 100% of the time. It is one thing to accelerate to a speed of 220. It is a whole lot tougher to brake from 220 down to 40 mile an hour going into a corner. You have a car to your left a car in front and a car behind. The last person on the brakes is the first one into the corner. The trick comes in leaving just the right amount of distance once you do apply the brakes to slow the car. If you don't you will slam into the wall.

I would rather watch road racing any day. I am just waiting for Scott Speed to advance to Formula 1, he is going to turn some heads and bring the spirit of road racing back to America.

    Hopefully,

    JR

I know people love to hate Michael

But he is one **** of a driver. He was a great driver before he came to Ferrari and is a great driver now. I remember a race where he managed to hold on to third place. He finished with 2 gears left in his gearbox. Almost completely unmentioned, but one of the greatest driving efforts in the recent past. The knock on him is that now and then he will make a complete goof for no reason (like Monaco last year.) It happens about twice a year. I think it's great that some of the other teams are winning, but not because I dislike either a driver or team.

I am not enough of a driver to compare racing formats, I just happen to love and follow F1.

    I agree

I agree with you Jerry, I'm not a big F1 fan, but people love to 'slate' the top driver.
Tyres are a big factor in racing, and with only a small part of these tyres in contact with track, it must also by a big safety issue.
With a lot of English money involved in the sport, here is the London Times view on the matter. I do feel sorry for all the fans, to whom the sport is expensive, and forked out a lot of money to watch a six car race!!

    Thanks Jimmy

Nice to see the rest of the world is just as P.O.'d as the fans in the states are. Chris

    Nice to see

Nice to see a few fans of F1 here, this weekend was a total mess up, makes me question why I am a fan a bit. Personally I get bored watching cars go in a circle, no matter how much passing etc, but to each his own. The web is burning with debate over what occurred, but F1 has been having managment trouble for years, and sometimes you have to burn down the house....
I come back for the technology, I'm just glad that somewhere in the world there is a cost no object race series, Imagine 10 cylinders spinning 19000 rpm yowzee! 5 Gs braking and about 4 cornering, nothing compares, not even jet fighters really.
Ok, steam power would be better, but you cant have everything!

    Jay,

I hope this is the nail in F-1's current coffin. Next year, they have decided to "reign in" costs by having the teams run 8 cylinder engines.

Cutting off 2 cylinders will incur an astronomical cost for the teams to develop a new engine, not to mention the cars having to be all reworked so they balance well and are still safe. The aerodynamisist will have his costs added too! Wind tunnel testing, tweaking brake set-ups, distributing the forces properly , keeping the new engines cool and together for 2 races are just the beginning.

    Savings? Methinks NOT!!!

I think it's time for the teams to break away from the current farce and start a new series. Of course, Bernie and Co. are going to have their hand out if that happens too! World class my hiney. This weekend showed just how the rules have turned it into a pocket liner for the few that own the rights to the name. Time to move on brothers. JMHO. Chris

    F1

Aye well, Thanks J.C.A. for your kind words, but I can't speak for the rest of the world? I'm not a big fan as I've said above, but it is assuring to see the great improvement in safety and I do think Bernie and Co(English money)have played a large part in this.
My son for one would be very upset to see F1 go. I would be upset to see another part of the UK car industry under threat - we don't need more car plants and related small companies close.
    Regards.

    Agreed

I couldn't agree more, the ideas put forward are rediculous, they will not reduce costs at all. Example, Ferrari used to build say 5 engines per car per weekend. Now with the one engine rule in effect they build the same number of component parts, carefully inspect the parts and pick the very best ones and throw the rest away. Doesn't sound much cheaper to me.
The real problem is Max Mosley, he is a moron/lawyer. Bernie gets a bad rap for ruling with an iron fist and having things his way, but I believe he would have handled the situation in a way that gave us a race on sunday no matter what.

    Someone has stepped up,

To the plate for the SNAFU that was the USGP/F-1 race this weekend.

Great job on their part! Chris http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/17757/

    And now for the Lawyerspeak...

It's not our fault...Blame someone else.(or everyone else but us...)

This is why there has to be a "breakaway" series. The rules are now putting money in their pockets, while the sport has become a work of seeing who can cheat the most, and get away with it. http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/17766/
