Correct Aquastat?
I just recently purchased an older home with a 17 year old Burnham P-205-W hot water boiler and cast iron rads. The boiler has a Honeywell L8148E Aquastat with a minimum temperature setting of 190 degrees. Does this seem like the correct aquastat since the lowest setting is 190? I thought the idea was to lower the boiler temperature. Any help would be appreciated.0 -
You can put another aquastat on there and reduce the water temperature. If you have enough radiation to handle the lower water temperature this will help reduce the fuel consumption. You will probably not amertize the cost of of this change in a reasonable period unless the aquastat needs to be replaced anyway. I would suggest that you save this money and put it towards a new boiler. Twenty years is about all you want to keep a boiler. There are more efficient systems on the market today. A properly sized three or four pass boiler should save you at least 20% and possibly much more than that.0
