Buderus Questions

Use the GA boiler when connected to HydroAir and a DHW tank. It will perform better and be able to meet the demand of the air handler HW coils. The GB is not for every application, by any means.

Buderus Questions
We are going to be replacing our boiler in the next month or so. Had a heating contractor come out to look at our setup yesterday.
We have 3 hydroair units and a small radiant loop (dry). Also, 60 gallon Phase III unit.
They are saying we should probably go with one of their cast iron gas boilers and then use electronic controls with outdoor reset to decrease the water temp when it's warmer outside. (The sales rep for Buderus was also there). I had brought up that I would be interested in The GB142 as in the warmer days, it would be condensing as well as modulating. They weren't real keen on that because of the lower water temps with the hydroair.
I did an experiment last night and set our boiler water temp to 150, and the house is comfortable and at temp today (the outside temp was in the 30's last night). The rep said he would discuss it with someone at Buderus but still seemed to be leaning toward the GA244.
Thanks.
What do you guys think?0 -
i like your idea .
the boiler steps to meet demand. seems like the best of all worlds. maybe it has something to do with fan speeds being a little higher is what they are thinking....comfort is everything0 -
Our air handlers are Trane TWE048, which are the standard (not variable speed) air handlers. Would that be an issue? Would that be because if the air is moving faster, it will seem cooler? I know there is some type of adjustment inside the unit where you can decrease the speed if desired. I guess I would really like to use a condensing boiler if at all possible, but not at the expense of comfort. What would be the effiency of say the GA244 along with the electronic controls vs the GB142. Are we talking pretty close?0 -
We did a hydro-air job recently w/ outdoor reset. Boiler was running about 125 F we had a supplyair temp of 108f.I talked to the customer the other day she was very happy w/ system . (it replaced oil FHA)
Alot of times guys run too high of boiler tepms for hydroa-ir. I run the air-handlers on low speed for longer cycles.
I would go w/ the modulating boiler over non-mod. With modulating boiler temps and btu inputs it will save you $$ for years to come. Good Luck.0
