You are free to do whatever you please...until you kill someone or get caught. "downfiring" a boiler - especially gas is something that was done quite frequently in the past, but must be done with great caution and expertise. Experienced pros only....oh! and let me add...YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, bro. Manufacturer's cannot and will not take responsiblilty for field alterations of that nature. You'd better know what you are doing. Mad Dog

    down fireing seam boiler

I have a gas Peerless 561 boiler rated for 404 sq ft. One pipe system set at .5 lb with 1 1/2 diff -8 rads mostly base rays cast iron- total load including uninsulated mains = 230 sq ft. I doubled the gorton #1 main vents on both runs.System runs fine but I have to feel I'm burning to much gas for such a small load. Can the boiler be downfired via plugging 2 of the 8 orifices(25% reduction in fuel burn) or replaceing the stat in the boiler or or anything else to satisfy the existing load. IF so will I see a fuel savings. It is a 2 story semi attached house and the bare mains provide wanted heat in the finished basement. Thanks JIM

I had no intensions of doing it myself. Only a pro would do it . I ask if it is doable and safe thats all.Boiler replacement is costly and my unit is only 11years old and pass warranty , but works great . It's just too large for my load.If it can't be done can I hook up a indrect water heater to this boiler to save $$$$. Thanks

    Fuel pump

    Question I'm new at this.
If you increase your PSI on your fuel pump shouldn't you decrease your nozzle size?
