FAI for residential boiler?

i have a gas-fired weil-maclain model CGM-7P1 Series 7 boiler installed in 1981 running hydronic heat in an 1920s wood frame house. AGA input 210Kbtu/hr; DOE htg cap. 165Kbtu/hr; net ibr output 143.5mbh.
Do i need a fresh air intake? The unfinished unheated utility room, which houses the boiler, 50 gallon 36Kinput State PRV50 hot water heater and washer/drier is in a closed 1/4 of a finished and heated basement. We use gas for heat, hot water, drier and the stove. We often leave the door open to the utility room so some house air is available. Unless an fai was piped in directly to the boiler i'd be concerned about and fai cold air freezing the room.

    fresh air

the codes are quite explicit about combustion air. Consult the boiler manual for requirements. It sounds to me from you description that some air is needed. The boiler is considered in a confined space if in an enclosure under 7000 cubic feet. The drier can exhaust air supplies in the room, so be careful. There are many options available to get resh air into the room. Consult a pro for details ans options

    Food for thought

if you are planning on adding insulation to your home or sealng you home up to increase energy efficiency you may run into problems. The more you button up your home the less combustion air available for your gas fired equipment.

If you are than replace your boiler with a sealed combustion boiler with a side arm water heater. Add an outdoor reset controller and you will be "dialed in"

    Good Luck,

    Justin
