What is this steam system
I have a house built in 1920. The attached pictures show the steam system I have. It has three pipes! I do not now the purpose of the smaller pipe that runs all the way to the basement where it joins over a new boiler but is capped off. I am thinking a vapor system but want to confirm. A fitting on the side says "Enkin Brothers" patent in 1893. I am wondering if this can be turned into a regular two pipe system by adding some steam traps in place of the return valve, but first I want to find out what it is.0 -
That's similar to a Paul system.
The device removed the air from the radiators. You can replace them with standard air vents and keep the pressure low.Retired and loving it.0 -
Thanks for the advice. Are you refering to standard one-pipe system air vents that I could find at a plumbing supply store, or something more specialized?0
