The upside is that this could be used as a sales tool.

Absolutely right....
... this forecast, along with the many testimonials we have had from delighted customers re: energy savings, should be required reading for any homeowner dithering on whether to install a condensing gas boiler or not. I'd print the thing and hand it out with every proposal.
And to think that when I was involved with the DoE to set energy efficiency standards for AC, etc. that the prognosis in 1999 predicted energy prices would be falling 10% from 2000-2005, IIRC...0 -
That is a highly informative report
Very sobering. It should be mandatory reading for everyone involved in the HVAC trade. Consumers who are comtemplating new construction, remodeling, HVAC system updates etc should be made aware of these numbers. I have a set of plans drawn up for a new house we hope to build someday. I think I'm going to scale back the sq footage and upgrade the insulation as much as possible.0 -
And once that (scaling back size while increasing insulation) is done, there will be ever more call for condensing/modulating boilers with significantly lower outputs than currently available!0 -
Amen
says the choir.
Best I have heard of so far is a British unit mentioned on the wall that modulated down to 8 MBH, IIRC.
