What is a good leak free pipe sealant to use on copper male adapters screwing into a cast iron boiler?

    sealant

    Megaloc
  • Not approved but,,,

I've been using GE 100% silicone for all things hydronic for over five years now over a 3-wrap of teflon tape. So far - so good. I really like the way things fit-up with this method. (not for gas!)

Rectorseal #5 is the old standby and it's never let me down but, it's hard to get off hands & pants. Think Dan has a section to the left that talks about pipe sealant.

  • I like the Permatex too

on fittings you know you never need to take apart again .

For everything else it's 2 or 3 wraps of Teflon on the first couple of threads , then Rectorseal #5 over the Teflon . I also throw some sealant on the inner threads of everything above 1 inch - better to be safe than sorry .

We don't usually put male adapters directly into a boiler.

Teflon and Rectorseal. Exactly as Ron Jr. does.

We keep Permatex on hand just in case, but rarely have to use it.

Leak lock on oil line fittings from tank to burner.
Rectorseal Number 2 for oil fill and vent.

I want to try the Loctite 55 string, and Expando. Can't find Expando anywhere. Does someone want to send me a can?
    I have money. Green money.
