Big professional plumbing supply house is what you need. Hit the nearest big city's yellow pages, measure your pipes diameter, and get on the phone. UPS works wonders.

Using R-11 Fibreglass to insulate steam pipes

I have 3" copper pipes near the boiler (Hartford Loop?), and 3" cast iron mains. The copper pipes are not insulated. Sections of the cast iron main are insulated with asbestos.

I have tried to locate clamshell type insulation in the Albany, NY area, without success.

Is it safe and recommended to use regular R-11 Owens Corning Fiberglass insulation (the type normally used in walls)?

I would like to reduce my bill (which was high last winter) but I don't want a fire hazard instead.

    Thanks for your advice
