flow check on water heater

I recently installed a new AO SMITH HWH. They now give you dielectric nipples with little check valves (plastic flappers) why not see if you could get a couple of those?

My cold pipe gets hot after a few hours of sitting idle. (water heater) Has anyone put a flow check on theirs to prevent this heat loss? Also, anyone know where I can find the 'instant HW trick' that uses the 't' on the drain valve, etc...?

    Thanks,

    flo check

You can put in a check valve to prevent heat migration up the cold water pipe, but you will need to add a potable water expansion tank to keep the boiler safety from popping off. Unless you are getting hot water at any cold water faucet, there is little to worry about. a simple heat trap, or a dip in the cold line, will stop the migration of heat.
