Can I add \"Sound Cover\" to Beckett AFG burner?

I have a newly installed Weil-Mclain WGO-Gold boiler with Beckett AFG burner. Unit seems to work great except I wish it were quieter. Can I order and install just the accessory "Beckett sound cover" without the outside air intake option and will the burner have enough air for combustion? Thanks in advance! James

    WGO's and SGO Boilers

I have found that the majority of the noise is from the chimney, but blammed on the burner. First i would make sure the Draft Regulator is as close to the chimney as possible, second make sure the pump psi is raised for better atomization of the oil. But the answer to your question is yes, they do make a Beckett sound dampening cover.

    Alan gave you the answer,

To your question. There is a cover available....but it doesn't always address the answer.

If your previous burner had a motor speed of 1725 and your boiler was too big for the home, it muffled the sound very well. If you've got a new boiler and the appropriate burner...there are a few ways of"adjusting" to it.

The burner cover actually increases the air flow at the intake because it gets it from a smaller area at the front of the burner. The air flowing to it is SLIGHTLY baffled by the insulation in the cover, but will always sound louder than the old one.

Beckett gives quite a range of nozzle specs. for most boiler/burner combinations. Ask the installer to consult their OEM guide for the references, and/or give Beckett a call directly and give them the circumstances of the particular install. The team at the factory can and has tested all of the equipment that their burners are installed on and can give them some advice.

This could also be "THE NEW SOUND THAT YOU HAVE TO GET USED TO". Efficiency has a price and sometimes it's a new sound. Chris

Thank you to everyone that responded - I will give the cover a try - I know some of the noise is combustion related, but there is also some motor/burner noise and if it were even partially reduced, I would notice.

    What about an air box

Like the one used on EK boilers and Burnham boilers? Piping in fresh air to a sealed box makes a bigger difference than a cover.
