Pressure All of a Sudden?

The cutout is the snall gray box i think. It's never been moved, and is way down, like .5 or something like that, almost not pushed up at all.

I've got a single pipe oil fed system. The pressure gauge goes all the way to 30, but of course never gets that high.
I just had my yearly maintenance, and they said everything is working well.
The pressure gauge almost never moves, but this year I've noticed that when I'm trying to crank the heat, like go from 60 to 68-70, pressure is building up, and the thing automatically cuts off at 3psi. Once the pressure goes back down to just about .5psi, the system turns back on and resumes getting the temp to what I've set it to.
Is this OK?0 -
Maybe
the boiler was dirty inside, they cleaned it, now more heat is getting to the water so it builds a bit of pressure. I'd make sure the pressure cutout is cranked all the way down.0 -
Brian, what you don't want is to keep burning oil when the radiators are already hot. The vents close when your rads are full of steam, than the system starts to build pressure. Letting the boiler shut off on pressure is saving oil. The steam is up and the radiators are hot, let them heat the room and let the boiler coast. building 3 psi is more than is needed to move steam. Steam moves with only a few onces of pressure. lower the pressuretrol all the way down to that .5 position and set the diferental (Ask a pro for that setting)0 -
REPLACE THE GAUGE !!!
