Weil McLain EG w/ low water sensor issues

be having your pro check for leaks in the boiler to make sure one of the gaskets are not leaking, since it was aaembled on site it just might be retorquing of the rods through the boiler sections as it has loosenbed up with expansion/contraction.

    It keeps shutting off!

About a week ago, the low water sensor shut the system down. But the sight glass showed about 1/3 full. The "knucklehead" came and added water until it shut off - luckily not enough to overfill. Says to husband "maybe we should retrofit it with an autofill". Bull.

No problems again until yesterday. This entire weekend it's been shutting off. It starts back up upon adding a bit of water. Each time, there seems to be plenty of agua in the sight glass.

This boiler was just installed - literally 3-4 weeks old. Have you folks heard of any issues with the SAFGARD low water sensors shipped with the Weil McLain EG steam boiler?

    EG or

    P-EG?

Was the boiler completely assembled when it showed up?

The Safeguard LWCO is doing its job when the water drops below the probe of the LWCO it shuts down the boiler. When you add water add to about 3/4 full in the gauge, that way it will not shut off as often. If you look at where the cenbter of theLWCO probe enters the boiler that is where it should shut the boiler down. Now you just have to figure out why its using such a big amout oif water. Vents not closing, leaks around the valve stemss oif the radiator valves or other valves in the system, pipes leaking below floor level that go unseen, or a leak in the boiler or fittings.

Nope - they had to assemble it onsite. That's a different fiasco...

    Water level

I'll check where the probe level is. I'd had the system running at 3/4 full, and it was cycling too frequently (I think not enough room to make steam?). I has been running fine at 1/2 full, but I'll check again - thanks for the posts!

    low water cutoff tripping

I would guess the boiler needs skimming, crud and oils have accumulated in new boiler after new system was started and now the water level is bouncing and causing the lwco to trip, as long as it was piped right in the first place. Even if it was not, this will probably need to be done. Good luck.

It has a probe type LWOC and she has to keep adding to get to run again, if it was just bouncing shouldn't it come back on its own eventually. i agree with skimming but looks like more is going on here

Not to step on anyones toes here....

But, have you checked to see if the valves at the bottom and top of the sight glass are fully open?

Seems simple right?, you'd be surprised to know how many times I've found them closed. Chris

    Thanks for the info.

The EG boiler block comes pre-assembled from the factory. Did the installers dis-assemble the block?

Another possibility is that they used teflon tape on the probe for the LWCO. This could cause the problems with the low water cut-off.

Any chance you can post some pictures of your installation?

Please do not attempt to skim the boiler! There is a potential scalding hazard here.
