The most hot water?

My customer wants a new boiler. He has a Columbia Gem and he loves it. He wants a new one, same space, same place.

He does not want an indirect, he does not want a storage tank. He wants a tankless coil, just like the one they had for 19 years [it was replaced twice ]but just with more hot water.

So, no high tech, which three or four section boiler or vertical tube steel boiler with a tankless gives the most hot water?

Open for opinions, solutions, ideas, past experience, gut feelings, known facts, urban myths, ...........whatever?

How about a triangle tube Delta ?? It is a confined space , finished basement laundry room deal. Raised ranch with garage, no room for an indirect unless I stacked something like a buderus

    Hey Bill,

Got enough room for a "reverse/on demand indirect"? Kind of like an old sidearm with an on-demand feature. If the boiler can keep up with it, I've seen it work a couple of times. Chris

    Space wise not sure

But I would try an 8 series HB Smith set up for HW and put in the Steam Tankless also, I know thats not exactly what your looking for but an idea

    in hot water

Joe, Brian, It is an oil burner. The customer has absolutely no interest in modern efficient equipment.

Space is at a premium, very limited, he wants to keep the same footprint as the Columbia. Period. I tried for almost an hour to talk him into an upgrade. He wants to replace what he has, final answer.

Price and space are the key issues, oh, and hot water.

Thanks for the ideas, i will consider any and all suggestions.

How about a rear coil burnham steam block converted to hot water?

Bill, Triangle tube with an anti scald,LWCO,22gal stainless,

with a riello BF, General ,+ suntec with osv,and tiger-loop combo.......would be a very This century lash up for your buddy. Si vous'voudrais *~/:)

your BTU is always limited on the down side of oil boilers buh as you are sharp with NBP you have the chance to impress the energy efficent consumer with an outstanding choise :)

the boiler is also insulated .

if he has duckettes, triangle tube makes all sorts of plate exchangers..... for a dash of exterior pre heat for some serious DHW useage :) zone the plate :)

    Bill

You mentioned the TT Delta which is gas fired. The Elite is oil fired. I also think Thermodynamics has 2 steel boilers with large water content and 5 GPM coils like Columbia. But small low mass boilers like the Burnham LE, Laars Max, Columbia LV ,Thermodynamic LM, or Crown Freeport (C.I.) could sit on a horizontal tank like the Buderus combo you mentioned.

    Or Or....

A Viessman with a top o the line indirect and whats Up burner and pipe the dryer vent straight into the burner....

i will buy it soon as it has issues :) i could use one :) Thanks. I Knew i could count on You *~/:)

You Know i would do the same for you :))

sorry, i just keep thinking about the "We cant get the boiler to GO,and we cant understand Why ,We just had another one installed last winter..." snivilers who paid some one else to install at Lowest Price Possible.

my reply has become "You Should have bought a Viessman" :)

I figure this way if they want to spend money constantly...i will buy them a boiler in trade on their Viessman :)

    If...

...he wants hot water for showering, how about a GFX unit in the drain? Won't take up much space :~) and can double shower time.

    Yours, Larry

    Joe ,

Joe. I meant Elite. So many boilers, so many names.

This guy is very smart and a very gifted mechanic. He has been racing cars since the 60's. Very mechanically inclined but he wants a boiler with a tankless ! Go figure. His first house had a Repco, this house has a Columbia Gem. About as basic as you can get.

I was hoping to gather information on what I could do to make the best of a bad situation _------------ boiler with a tankless ----- does any one brand out perform another?

I have ideas and opinions of my own [very limited] Thought some one might have a better idea

    abs

Larry, What can you do with abs or pvc piping? The basement is finished and sheetrocked. Only about three feet of waste pipe is visible in mechanical room, er, I mean laundry , storage, boiler room.
  • Definitely worth consideration

is the Peerless ECT with an 8 GPM round coil . Large water content boiler that can produce quite alot of hot water through a coil . Of course , upsize the boiler a section if he really needs the extra hot water and will never add a tank or indirect . It also comes with another coil port for steam if needed .

    I second that...

Smith series 8 is in my opinion the most underated boiler out there.Slap a riello on is and your good... I guess another option would be a Thermo-dynamics CWL series w/ the 5 gpm coil, wet leg, steel. kpc
