My brother just moved in his house. It has a one pipe steam system. His basement is not heated, can someone give me options on how to heat his basement using his existing steam boiler.

Hot water direct from the boiler

Commonly done, extracting hot water from below the boiler water line either directly or via a heat exchanger. Boiler can be fired to maintain temperature independently of calls for steam but stopping short of steam temperatures.0
