More GB Magic

A mix of radiant and baseboard. We used the Taco I-radiant mixing valve. Seems to be working well. Checked out the combustion numbers with our new TSI analyzer from NCI. The GB is purring away. We got our official system start-up from Supply House Rick. One more satisfied customer!

Nice work
I have yet to install my first GB142, but am looking forward to it. I also want to try the Triangle Tube Prestige boiler.
Every time I call my supplier and give him an order, he wants to know if he can add a Prestige. I'll have to try one just so he will leave me alone.

Beautifully installed!
Are you using the RC-10 controller?0 -
Another Beautiful Install by the Masters
Yes, it received my "Seal of Approval", errr, well really it will show Rob I was actually working today!

Nice Darin.
Nice work as usual.
How are you running the boiler? Are you using the end switches on the ZVC controls and sending them to the plug on the GB relay for thermostats?
Next ?, Where is the DHW pump? On the feed to the tank I suspect.(tight squeeze?) Chris0 -
Here's a better pic
I touched it up a bit.
Domestic circ is on top of the indirect.
Thanks Chris.

For now
we are using the T-T contacts on the ZVC to activate the boiler.
But we saw something wonderful in NH last week.
Due in March, the EM-10 control. OD reset and multi-boiler control.
I will say this, hats off to Taco for the I-series valve. Since these things always amaze me, I listened to it motor up and down for a while. We should have put a thermometer in the radiant supply, but I killed some time measuring the ohms on the OD sensor and matching it to the chart in the manual for OD temp. Then I followed the curve to see where the valve "wanted" to be. A digital thermometer verified the settings and the target temp. Today the target temp was 94 degrees and the floor was at 70 degrees rather quickly.
This home is for the mother-in-law of a builder that we have done quite a bit of work for. He is also the builder of the 13,000 square foot home we are starting in a few weeks.
The builder told me to keep it simple and just do baseboard but I couldn't. So we put radiant in 75% of the home and baseboard in the rest. This is a teeny house, a 1400 square foot ranch. The builders mother-in-law is one of the nicest people I have ever met and she had us install a new boiler in the house she lived in before this so Comfortable Home Technologies gave her a "home warming" present.
Every time she showed up on the job to see how things were going, she ALWAYS thanked EVERY contractor there for their "hard work". A lady with class for sure.
We also did the plumbing and central A/C in the home.
She will be very comfortable in her new home, we guarantee it!

I-Series
The I-Series makes more noise than the GB142. Quietest boiler I have ever (not) heard...
Rick0 -
Model 6130
And I like it just fine.
I cut my teeth on Bacharach and still love the Fyrite-Pro(I'm buying another Fyrite-pro 125. Bacharach RULES!)
Now I bring two testers into a house instead of one!!!

LWCO
When I installed Trinitys I always put in a LWCO. But with the GB I don't feel it necessary with the LPCO built impersonally I think the LPCO protects the boiler better than the LWCO and by eliminating it I can bring my price a little closer to my competitors who use a different boiler.
Unfortunately in Ontario we have no regulations yet that make LWCOs mandatory. Is it different in NY or is that what your comfortable with?
Great Job
Dobber0 -
LWCO's
Yes they are mandatory here in NYS. Personally I think a low pressure switch is much better than a LWCO. But having both is just redundancy in boiler protection so I guess it is not a bad thing.
Darin0 -
No RC 10
I got to be honest Mike. The RC 10 is difficult to use in most of our installs. Nothing makes more sense than indoor reset, it is just hard to implement it with the typical American multi zone/multi temp system. The outdoor reset will be along very soon. We will use that on every install.
Darin0 -
Thanks Jim
I am sure we will get to share a few beers and trade some stories sometime. We will be down to visit the "dog" at some point.
Darin0 -
Thanks Devan
You are welcome for the info.0 -
Thanks Chris
I liked your idea of moving the GB manifold to a more accessible position. Good Thinking!! I am looking forward to seeing you and Scott in April. A few cocktails will be tilted back, no doubt.
Darin0 -
Thanks Alan
We really like this boiler. It is "wicked" quiet. More importantly we are not haunted with nickel and dime call backs. The Prestige looks nice too. It looks like Dan Foley has been having good luck with them. It is a great time to be in our trade!!
Darin0 -
Ahh yes...
The department of redudancy department rears its ugly head once again....Isn't that redundant ? Sorry, I feel our cause has been met more than once....but the department of redundancy feels it has to be met again and again and yet AGAIN.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but that could also be redundant....Chris/JCA/Chris A./jcaog/possibly happy person?
So many rules...So few people to enforce them economically. Chris/JCA/Chris A./jcaog/ Possibly covered by insurance person?0 -
SO Darin and Mark
When do I get credit for pushing you guys towards the I-Radiant ??? Huh , Huh ??
Its a great match and once again you two ( or is it one ? ) have done a great job.
Hope you had fun at Buderus , looks like you did. I had a good time with the family in FLA.

OK
Thanks Scott for the tip on the I-series valves!
Darin did the boiler piping, I got to do the staple-up and hang the boiler and the wiring.(Darin is afraid of electricity...what with being raised by Amish and all)
We did have a good time in NH with Maddog!
Glad you and your family had a great time and welcome home!

Nothing makes more sense than indoor reset, it is just hard to implement it with the typical American multi zone/multi temp system.
'Tis a shame since the RC-10 scheme has the potential for exceptional efficiency while still allowing fast response.0 -
Typical
When told to keep it simple , you go with what ? Radiant of course . You and Darin do some really amazing work . I'm glad the I series valve is working good , I'm thinking of using one when I upgrade my old workhorse . Aren't nice customers the best ? I always go the extra mile for someone who appreciates what we're trying to do . The ones who give us an attitude before we walk in the door get exactly what they pay for - and nothing else !

Nice GB Install
Good job and thanks for the support. Lately the pictures being posted of GB installs set a high standard. Quality workmanship is great to see. Thank you!0 -
what makes you think...
Alan, what makes you think I'll leave you alone if you buy a Prestige?0
