Climate panel

We have the screw gun but don't use it much. Staples are so much quicker. We start with 2 screws just to hold in place. Then caulk and tube and follow up with staples. The staples wont pull through the plywood like the screws can. The staples cannot be removed without damaging the panel thats why we use both.

Climate Panels Staple or Screw ?
We have a few Climate Panel/ Quik Trak Panels installs coming up and deciding between screwing or stapling panels to subfloor.
Like to know pro/con of each. (i already have compressor/hose/gun. I do not have the the auto-feed screw gun, but will purchase, if it's the better install.
thanks Jon

screw it.
Screws won't back out like staples can. I wouldn't personally take that chance and have floor squeaks blamed on me!0 -
Once and for all
From the Viega Climate Panel installation manual as follows
For Climate Panel above subfloor with hardwood finish floor:
Screw or staple Climate Panels to the subfloor perpendicular to the direction of the hardwood floor,
Stagger the seams of the Climate Panel,
Above crawl spaces or basements with moisture problems install PE vapor barrier underneath the floor joists,
Hardwood should always be installed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions
Maximum floor surface temperature = 85*
Subfloor a minimum of 3/4" thick
Minimum of r-19 insulation under the heated floor.
FOR CP WITH TILE, as follows:
Screw or staple Climate Panels to the subfloor
Glue and screw concrete fiberboard to Climate Panel
Set tiles into thin set mortar
Maximum floor surface temperature = 85*
Minimum r-19 under floor
FOR CLIMATE PANEL UNDER CARPET
Screw or staple CP to the subfloor
Install carpet and pad with nailing strips
For minimum height buildup, install carpet and pad directly over Climate Panel
If height allows, a luan cover sheet can be used over the Climate Panel
IMPORTANT NOTE (boldface by Viega) Always stay below a cumulative r value of 2.5 above the Climate Panel.
The above statements are taken directly from pages 18 and 19 of the Viega Climate Panel System installation manual.
There is also good info in there regarding screw or staple spacing per panel.
There you have it folks, the factory's own recommendations right here in a nutshell.
Personally, I like screwin' em. Never had a problem with noise. period.0 -
