Knight Boiler, Zone Valves, and Matt J

This is a Tekmar TN4 control setup with a 420 boiler reset module and a 335 zone valve manager.

I had the box built and laminated so that I could surface mount the control, the system IOM's and warranty information, and a 8 x 10 to display our logo and phone number.

The really nice feature is that the front panel is hinged and swings up to expose several electrical junction boxes. One box for Line voltage for circulators, one j-box for sensor and t-stat wiring, and one box for the zone valve wiring. I can pre wire my tekmar to the J-boxes in the shop, the I can just bring all of the leads together "behind-the-scenes". I really like having all of the wiring concealed. I saw Jamie Pompetti do this on a job, and I had a box built to accomodate. (Thanks Jamie)

A lot can be said about a nicely piped radiant job, but complimenting said job with an outstanding wiring job really sets it off.

Regards,

PR

    Home & Garden Show Display

Matt J has been working into the evening and weekends in preparation for a Home and Garden Show coming up this week. He has built several displays that we are going to use in the show prior to their permanent home. This display already has a home. Thanks for ALL of the hard work Matt.

Starting with the concept. A Knight boiler will provide heat to 4 separate zones and DHW on priority. Even though the Knight CAN provide outdoor-reset and DHW on priority, I went with the new TN4 control series to control the Taco ESP zone-valves, added pump exercising, and give the home-owner the "Bling" he is not expecting. I will have that control board finished up in a day or two.

This is all mounted on 3/4" Melamine. He built the boiler stand out of Uni-strut, as well as the stand for the display board. I really like the shut offs for the expansion tank and the fill valve / backflow. The nicely bent 3/8 copper was Matts handiwork. I like it in that the flare nut is also the union when it comes time to replace the tank. I don't know if Matt really likes the Mupro "green-line sonic-clamps", but I like the isolation and uniformity. There is also a Mupro clamp around the Amtrol #15 expansion tank. There SSU-60 indirect is partially viewed and the Taco DPBV is the 90 valve at the end of the bank of zone-valves.

A big factor for this display board is that it is all being built at the shop, broke down and transported to the home show, then stored at the shop until we can mount it in the mechanical room of it's new home.

Matt has also built a working electric radiant display that he tiled. He is also working on a 4 x 6 display with injection mixing. If you call Matt at home and you have to leave a message, you will know why.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • VERRRyyy nice...

So, what happens if the HO shows up at the show....;-)

I miss the H&G shows, standing on the hard concrete floors for 10 hours per day, 10 to 14 day in a row, waiting for the only question that the Looky Lou's ever ask, "What do you do if it leaks???"

Yeah, I miss it like I miss my ex wife...

Great work, may you sell a million of them.

Don't be discouraged by my attitude. I just got burnt out after doing it for so long. Now, when H&G season comes around, my back and feet go into withdrawl and I get sympathy pains for all the other people still down there, working the Looky Lou's.

Best of luck, and make sure and get some Dr Scholls foot pads. They're GREAT!

Which program did you use to make the first drawing? Nice Work.

I use the Visio Software. The biggest advantage I find is in completing the electrical and control strategy with all of the available templates. Here is the corresponding electrical diagram for this job. Not quite completed yet. I like the functions of it, but I need to improve upon drawing it to a relative scale.

    Mark,

Compared to other forms of advertising, this is money well spent. I too am not looking forward to the marathon days of standing, but if you know me, I can (and will) talk about radiant to anyone who will listen.

The zone valve panel is going to a job, the boiler is slated for a different home. Technically, this is not all his display, but when asked, I will politely tell him that this is the same type of high quality material that we will use in their home.

    Home show foot burn

Man do I know about that!

I would go outside, take my shoes off and stand on the ice cold concrete. WHAT A RELIEF!

It's a guarantee that your booth will attract MANY visitors.

    Very nice Paul.

    Gorgeous Paul,

Maybe you really ARE magic! (Matt is for sure)
All I can say is I'm glad you're 100 miles away. How could I begin to compete with that! And THANKS for driving all that way to help me at my FIRST homeshow about 4 years ago. I really appreciated the moral support. Kevin

It would be nice to see the Taco controls displayed at the show. If you take digital pictures we can all see how nice it all looks.

    Nice work guys

consider flipping the expansion tank right side up, Just a bit more pipe and it would save that "why is that upside down" question.

It would be real sweet if you could take a small LP tank and fire that baby. Sure is nice to watch the expression when folks see that unit operate and modulate.

Oddly enough I got a job on this past Monday from a connection I made two years at FarmFest!

I feel those shows are an excellent way to sell and generate leads.

    Other displays

I finished my "Infloor" brand Infloor Board display, and Matt finished the electric boiler and injection mixing display.

Long story short on the electric boiler, we bid LP fired high end equipment, but the HO opted for electric. To get him some bling and bang for his buck, Tekmar TN4 comes through. The HO's weekend beach house is getting outdoor reset with injection mixing, Tekmar 541 T-stats, and a little craftsmanship with diamond plate ala Matt J. I think he will be pleased.
