buffer tanks

I have been unable to locate a purpose built buffer tank and i'm getting sick of using electric HWT's for the task. does anyone know of any North American available ones, i have seen some nice ones here and there on the web but they're all european. there must be like 30 groundsource heatpump manufacturers in N America but not one makes a buffer tank(?!) why are the Euros ahead of us with everything? :(

i know John Wood makes some larger commercial ones but i'm after 30-50 gal. sizes.

    Laars

I have been using the Laars BT20 buffer tank for about 6 years. 20-gallon, pretty well insulated. Not bad for pricing.

Finding a spec on-line is a challenge. We use them in a lot of low mass radiant jobs, usually micro-zones.

    Amatrol

Has a 2 coil tank. I guess one coil could be put on the Geo loop.
  • yes but...

to clarify, i'm not looking for an indirect heater, i need a simple storage tank (preferably with 4X 1" connections)to be used as a buffer to uncouple the heatpump from the rest of the system to prevent short cycling.

    closest I've seen

    is the tank @ 78 gal. Lochinvar. It has 3 - 2" tappings, a 1" T&P and 3/4" drain.

    geo buffer

would you give me the name of some sites you use for info on gshp units? How about a prefered brand, loop type vert or horz? copper and refrigerant or pv and antifreeze? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm going from service only to sales and installation. Hint on the buffer tank: Try a dairy equipment supplier.Best Regards, zac.

    Bock Tanks

We've used product by Bock for geo applications. Not perfect, tapping-wise, but workable. 30, 50 and 80-gallon tanks, ASME if you want it.

    http://www.bockwaterheaters.com/commercial-products/storage-tanks/

Two, 2-inch lower return tappings. One, 2-inch outlet on top. 3/4" aquastat fitting, 3/4" T&P Fitting and drain valve. A couple anode rods on top as well.

    Hydron

Once upon a time, Hydron, the Geo manufacturer was selling the Bock product. Had to have one shipped from South Dakota when it was probably manufactured 60-minutes from me. The local folks weren't stocking it. Sad.

Now Hydron sells factory-direct, I think. They scrapped their Rep firm. http://www.hydronmodule.com/index.html

Thanks for the dream tank pic.
