burnham series 2 question

i have a burnham series 2 which runs constantly.....traced the problem down to the high limit....and discovered something
interesting....instead of shutting off the boiler at the high limit...the boiler is set to always keep the temperature at a mininum of the high limit setting....in this case 160....
Why would someone do this, and can the problem be fixed by changing the leads in the high limit control?
I can't believe someone did this......

sounds like it is wired to maintain temperature0 -
limit
So what you are saying is that the limit in question is actually a LOW limit. If the boiler has a tankless coil for the domestic hot water, this type of operation is necessary to maintain hot water.
Sometimes people will run a boiler constantly on the low limit because they have installed some new heating zones and didn't want to take the time or effort to properly wire/control the boiler. When the new zone calls, they are simply turning on the circulator (the boiler is already hot).
Hope this helps.0 -

Depending on the age and configuration of this boilers, there could be any number of reasons why this boiler is doing what it is doing. In order to determine what you have there, we would either need to know the entire Model Number or a list of the controls (aquastat, relay, gas valve, etc.). This would tell us whether it is 24v Standing Pilot, Millivolt or Spark Ignition equipped. Then we will be able to begin to make some sense of why it running all the time.

here are the specs on the burnham series 2:
model 204-w, 80k input, one taco 7....the honeywell aquastat is
l8148e.....the system is for two rooms....two separate thermostats( I think t 87's)...and two zone valves...

L8148E
What is connected to the terminals of the L8148E labeled TV and T ? Shut the power off to the boiler and without touching anything, follow the two leads and let me know where they connect to something else such as the 2 zone valves. If there is simply a jumper between the TV and T terminals, then we know why it's doing what it's doing. If you don't feel comfortable about doing this check then please have a professional do it!
