Waste Oil Boilers

I have within the last 10 days had three inquires regarding waste oil boilers. I am at a loss for information or even what manufacturers to look at first. Have any of you found a particular boiler to be better than others and for what reason is it better? What features should I look for, and also what problems have you encountered with waste oil boilers? You help will be greatly appreciated!

Good and bad, i have had to work on a few the last couple of weeks, one of the good ones is the Black Gold, it has a real good pre heater and tank pump is ok too,you can get them in water and air. try to steer clear of the ones with no pre heater,

    Clean Burn

is the only brand I have installed. I have had good results with about 11 installed going back about 3 years now.

They are a messy beast. Ash removal is important to keep them burning clean and from overheating in the HX.

The biggest issue I have seen is the quality of the oil they feed them. They won't burn water or antifreeze :)

A buffer tank is a must if you start to multi zone them. They only have one speed! Of course mixing and return temperature protection is a must. I drive mine with tekmar stage controls to handle all the control. Be sure to post purge and have a place to dump excess heat. When they start to fill with ash they hold a lot of heat and can over run the high limit switches.

Most of mine are installed in truck repair facilities. Spend time with the mechanics on maintenance and cleaning to prevent a lot of call backs.

Watch for listings. Some brands shop around for burners and blocks, these may not be listed as an assembled component.

  • Thanks everyone

Thanks for your input, it is of benefit to me for certain. I also have found a Reznor product that has all the features that have been discussed. I am finding that there are a limited number of sizes available in this segment of the market.
