Not defending any body but was this just a pump relay or combination aquastat circ relay and was it a triple duty with a high and low limit setting?if so maybe he had no current because the boiler was below the low limit temp and the circ circuit was not powered .Do you have a tankless coil it could have just been a simple mistake or maybe the aquastat is out of calibration.just a thought

Second Opinions
A few days ago, I posted that I had had a cleaning done on my Smith boiler, and they rreported that the relay on my aquastat was bad, as it was not powering the circulator. They said they got me going, but it was not good, and the aquastat should be replaced.
I decided to seek a second opinion, from a boiler tech highly recommended by a friend. First, he reeked of oil when he came in, but that's prob a good thing! Anyways, he said nothing is wrong with my aquastat. Tested it, showed me the lights when he tripped the relay, showed me woltage where it should be and all that.
So I guess the moral is, if you think someone is trying to take you for a ride, get a second opinion.

Actually
I would ask the first co. or person why he thought it was bad and he should have a good reason for saying that it was indeed bad. Perhaps a contact on the relay was pitted or something along thoes lines, but it doesen't mean there wasen't a problem. If it were I doing the first call,, you would know why I thought it was bad and if it should be replaced or not. In addition if I thought I could get you running, I would but the customer always makes the call. I can only reccomend a course of action and you have to make the final decision. It's like If I were to look at your A/C unit and found the compressor contacts pitted, I would advise you to replace it. It still works, but if the problem becomes worse you can actually start taking out the load it controls. Was it really worth it? Only you can say. Now if he lied to you, well Yea I would be very upset because you trusted this person.0
