May I use a Gorton's #1 on a cold room radiator?

You might consider, in addition to the big vent on the runout piping, a TRV vent on the radiator. This thermostat would work well with a FAST filling main and runout to heat the COLD floored room in the shoulder seasons FAST (when the heat is off for long stretches of time), and not overheat the rooms at any part of the year.
Ask this guy about his steam heat over his garage....

May I use a Gorton's #1 on a cold room radiator?
The room which is last on my main and above an unheated garage is usually cool.I have a #1 laying around and I was wondering if it acts the same as other radiator valves or because its designed for a main does it act different? I would really love to vent that rad faster. It has a Gorton's #6 on there now.0 -
Instead of that
I'd install more venting on the main leading to the cold room. Measure the length and diameter of the mains and tell us what vents are on them. We can tell you what you need.
You don't want to put a real big vent on a one-pipe radiator since it can let steam in too fast, which will prevent water from draining back thru the pipe. This can cause banging. The proper place for big vents is on the main.
Also check the length of the runout to the cold room, if it's much longer than the runouts to the other rads you'll need a bit more venting there- but not too much!

My main is 2 inch diameter and 55 feet in length. The main started out with a Gorton's #1 and I replaced it with a #2(hence the extra #1)Is that enough venting of the main?0 -
Pat, is that main
the only one in the house? If not, what are the particulars on the others?

Steamhead
Yes the 2 in pipe that is 55 feet long is the only main.At the end of the main is a Gorton's #20 -
I'd put a second Gorton #2 on there
since the entire boiler's output goes into that one main. You can put a tee on the vent riser and an elbow for the second vent.
