orange Kitec pipe
Anybody been using orange for domestic hot water? We finished a job in sept. and residents started complaining of taste and odor. Kitec did test and said its not from there pipe[go figure], checked out other parts of system and found know problems. Everything led back to the pipe so we decided to replace with new orange and guess what 2 500'rolls that we cut have the same odor of chemicals that we already have in the water. Kitec eastern rep. to be here Thursday. Using the orange because hot is circlated constatly.0 -
I have it
in my house and have never experienced anything like you describe.
We used to use it exclusively a few years ago and again, no issues.

This may sound strange, but could the residents actually be tasting the true flavor of the water? While I'm not among them, some people swear they can always "taste" copper0 -

I have seen many Kitec jobs never heard of this.0 -
We had two water tests done on the installation by a local lab, one at the source and one at the outlet. There were some differences between the 2 samples (all levels were well within EPA standards). We happened to be having some work done at a Swiss resin lab and so we added these test results on to the work order. They came back that the chemicals found in the samples had nothing whatsoever to do with PEX resin.
There are several sections in this developement and only one section has an owner that has the smell. If it still smells with new pipe it may be that the smell is still there from another source.
Our Regional Manager will be in to see them again this week.

We had a water test done on this installation by a local lab. They took one sample at the source and one at the outlet. There were some minor differences in the results of the 2 samples (all well within EPA standards). We were having some work done at a Swiss resin lab and we ran the test results by them. They came back that the chemicals in the test had no connection with PEX resin.
The developement has several sections done in Kitec. One section has an owner that has a problem. The rest of the sections are unaffected. Perhaps the fact that the odor is there with the new pipe says that it is coming from some other source.
Our Regional Manager will drop back in this week.

If your talking about the same job.Tuesday we got new pipe to run in apt. to satify management and 3/4 of the way though a 500' roll of 1' orange xpa we have a very stong chemical odor. That is why the regional rep. was called back in. And the taste&odor is noticed though out the hot water side of the system,in all apartments.0 -
unused water
We are a Kitec Distributor and have all Kitec for all of our domestic heating needs in our offices, and homes. We have an emergency shower on site that is rarely used, and when we run water thru this it contains a terrible sulfur like smell.
None of our other 15 water sources on the property have this problem. All the runs came from the same rolls of tubing. Explain this Chuck.0 -
Same thing happens in copper
If you do have sulphur in the water, it comes out of solution while it sits in that rarely used pipe. When you open it up, BAM! There's the smell. So you answered your own question. Rarely used.
