my one -pipe steam system works off a white-rodgers programmable thermastat. I have had it for at least 8yrs. was looking to replace it with a Honeywell provision thermostat. Will this change the way my boiler operates. And which model is best for a one pipe steam system.

    thermostats

I have a Honeywell VisionPro thermostat for my gas steam boiler. It seems to be a precise and easy to program unit. When it recovers from my setback periods (twice a day)to Wake and Sleep? settings heat is provided to all radiators due to the lengthy run needed for recover 3-5 degrees. However, I notice that with the fixed one degree sensitivity it has to maintain temperature, once recovery occurs, is not a lengthy enough run to heat all my raidiators. I cannot adjust this unit as I was able to adjust the anticipator on the old Honeywell T-87 (mercury switch) round thermostat. It suspect all digital thermostats may be like this. It may be the price we pay for digital accuracy. I am thinking of adding more line vents to prevent any short-cycling in the middle of an up temperature period.

PS. Note that these units have battery backup. If your batteries run down and you lose power, all the initial setup settings, the system requires, will default to a forced hot air system setup and cause short cycling for a water or steam based system. Check your system setup settings after a power outage.
