You might want to separate your domestic hot water from any space heating loop. I have heard that in the non-heating season water in your heating loop may develop bacteria because it is stagnant rather than actively circulating as it does during heating season. This may cause contamination of your domestic hot water supply.

I disconnected my fhw loop off the the domestic hot water heater last spring and tied it into my steam boiler.

Local codes permitting, water heaters are sometimes used as boilers, but proper safety devices must be added. As suggested such is [usually] only done for small loads.

Not a good idea to combine domestic water heating and space heating in the same device. As mentioned, truly nasty bugs like Legionella are a serious concern and will thrive in the hydro-air coil during the non-heating season.

  • Absolutely true.

In addition, I have worked with Bocks in systems before. I am not impressed with the efficiency and the suckers are LOUD.

    I have a bock

No regrets on the purchase. Just wish I had put in a draft damper to stop the heat from rising out my chimbley.LOL(slang for flue pipe)I could still add one.. I would just have to push the triple wall a bit further out the roof.
