Mike if the oil is gravity feeding to the oil pump it might be to much pressure on the oil pump causing it to squeal. Try a oil safety valve on the line it will cut down on the pressure.

  • New Becket AFG sqeaks

I just replaced my old Afg gun with a new one and ever since I did it there is a sqeak which I think is coming from the oil pump. Its a 2 pipe system and I put the bypass plug in.
When I had someone test o2 stack temp etc. The guy said the oil filter is clogged and thats what the noise is. I have more filters so changing it isnt a problem but I dont think thats the problem I changed it when I put new gun in and I have changed it in the past and never had such problems. Any ideas??? Thanks

    Have an experienced tech

Have an experienced tech check it out. It can be a number of things. Trial and error can cost you more than paying a professional.

Yes this is a help site

    Mike,

I am a licensed oil burner tech in the state I live in. In order to help you my advice is to call a pro.

    Here's the helpful information...

    Are you listening?

Call someone who knows what they are doing.

Or, after to replace the fittings and install the tiger loop, you can buy a new pump, then blow out the lines, then change the motor coupling, then change the motor, then check the fan clearance to see if anything's scraping, then if there is an air shutter take that out and check it for free operation.

You can do all that if you want and pay more than paying the guy who can recognize the noise. Could even smoke up the house really good.

    Duh.

Can't help but think that if you knew what you were doing then you wouldn't be here asking for help. What you have could be many things. Independance and self reliance only goes so far. Being nice could help you go even further.

  • Guys this is the homeowner section try and help rather then jump down his troat he said he had a tech there and said it was a clogged filter causing the problem and he doesnt seem to think the tech is correct. I would try to change the filter and see if it is clogged. also does the noise start when the burner does or does it start once the solenoid valve opens after 15 seconds of run time?

    Noise

If it is a singing type of noise, it could be a restriction of some type. Possibly sludge, crimped line, too long of a line length, too small of a line diameter, dirty filter, pump strainer, etc. Or water in the lines. A vacuum gauge is very useful. If everything checks out, try closing down the valve on the suction side until the noise stops as it could be harmonics in the pump. Keep a vac. gauge on so you don't starve the pump.

Thanks ken I have a vacuum gauge I will try that I will also blow out the lines and check filter.
Larry the noise only happens once the electric fuel valve opens after the 12-15 second delay to establish the draft.

could be even a clogged nozzle or worn oil pump gears. Not only is the 15 second delay to establish the draft, but more importantly to eliminate the starting and ending transiends
