on this 80K LP fired Knight. Very minimal build up, easily brushed and flushed out. 2945 hours on the SH (space heat) run time meter .

I used a channel lock to remove the gas line, a 1/4" nut driver to remove the air intake boot, and a 10mm socket to remove the burner. Took a total of 6 minutes to open this unit up.

I opened it up, brushed ands flushed, reassembled, and ran a combustion check in less than 30 minutes time.

I can't recall ANY cast iron boiler that could be broken, cleaned, and reassembled in that time. And provide 90% plus efficiencies :)

    Wondering..

    about the secondary HX where the condensate is processed. Without access to it, do you think it will "calcify" up the HX over a period of time? I'm kind of curious about what it would look like and if that will effect efficiency over time. Your thoughts?

    I doubt

    ikt will calcify as it see that ph 4 condensate "waters" But it does seem like thius is where the "grade" of stainless will be put to the test?

    There are many grades of stainless, some do better in acidic conditions. Stainless shops around here that work in food process industry have learned which to use when dealing with tomato slurry, mustard, etc.

    I think the indirect manufactures have, and are, learning this lesson also :)

    I've often wondered about that

    The secondary part of the HX is most likely where you would experience combustion residue because the moisture in that area gives the "soot" something to stick to. Granted, if the unit is properly tuned, there should be no residue but with the variation is gas we have now I'm sure we will run into a few smudged up secondaries on these designs. That being said, just how do you go about thouroughly cleaning that area?

    according to the HTP site, the secondary HX has been checked by the Euro's for years, and has not needed cleaning, thus no need to check on it.
