Proper operating temp and pressure for boiler

I recently drained the water out of my 40 something year old GE boiler in order to reroute some radiators that were in the way of the new doors I installed. Now that I piped things back and turned the thermostats back on, after purging the 2 zones, I noticed that the temp/pressure dial is reading at about 32 to 36 pounds and I know that it wasn't that high before I drained it. Does anyone have any knowledge with a system this old? did I do something wrong to cause the increase? or could it be a bad gauge?

    Time for a Pro

Not that you did wrong but you probably need the compression taank recharged and the relief valve should be blowing water at those pressures and needs to be addressed ASAP

Is the presure relief valve pre set or is it adjustable? and the compression tank was changed last year because the old one was leaking. I didn't know you could recharge those tanks. I thoght the tanks were pre-charged and they either worked or not.

    Pressure Relief Valve

is factory set by a spring and they do go bad either crud under the seat and weeps or rusted shut and therefore needs replacement. As for the tank I was assumeing you probably had a compression tank that needs recharging but you may have the newer Epansion tank with a bladder that either needs recharge on the air side or repalced if the bladder went. I usually press the shrader valve on bottom and see if I get water if I do its tank time otherwise drop system pressure to zero and check with a tire gauge, ususlly 12 lbs of air for 2 story house or 18n if three stories, The system pressure needs to match on the inlet side.
