Folks are already blaming the utility for shutting off the electricity for non-payment. (It was shut off during the summer). The friend who found them is being treated for poisoning as is an EMT/FF. There were still over 900ppm ambient when FF responded.
Carbon Monoxide Leak Kills Two In Windham
A man and a teenage boy died Friday afternoon, after being overcome by carbon monoxide. 35-year old Stewart Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, 16-year-old Nicholas Townsend, died at Maine Medical Center.
It happened at their home at 46 Dutton Hill Road. The source of the carbon monoxide was apparently a generator in the basement. The home has not had any electricity since last summer.
The Townsends were discovered by Stewart's co-worker, Scott Benoit. He gave Nicolas CPR and called 911. Benoit is being treated at Maine Medical Center as a precaution.
Firefighters had to air out the home for 45 minutes so police officers could safely enter.
Windham Police Officer Paul Cox says the home's windows were closed, and the generator had run out of gas. Its switch was in the "on" position.
The deaths come little more than a month after two men died from accidental carbon monoxide poisonings in the Somerset County town
of Smithfield. That incident also was linked to a generator that was being used indoors.
A fund has been set up to help pay for Nicolas and Stewart Townsend's funerals. Donations can be sent to the following address:

I read about that one
came in on my Google News Alerts. I am going to start saving these CO stories in seperate folders according to "the cause". CO from generators takes a HUGE number of people. Folks just don't make the connection.
I got a story last week about some young children that were killed when a generator was moved to a room near where they were sleeping. This happened in China and the Chinese government has "detained" the people that moved the generator.
I have to say that I have definately gotten more CO stories this year compared to years past. All bad news though.
