Tankless hot water connection

A tankless coil requirers the boiler to "maintain its temp"in order to give you hot water whenever you need it.That is like leaving your car ideling in the driveway so you could use it whenever you needed it.This anology is from "Jim McCarthy" the New England Viessman guy .Makes sense to me!

    Tankless hot water connection

Getting ready to replace a 35 year old oil fired Crown boiler that had a tankless coil but was disconnected years ago for reasons unknown and had an 80 gal elec WH piped in before we purchased. Getting ready to install a Columbia 4100 with a Riello burner. Question is would it be bennificial to connect a new tankless coil to the water heater for use as a storage tank or is it a waste doing it this way? Should we go with a standard summer winter hook up instead?

    Yes

it does make sense except when the "idling" is replaced by electricity that cost 21.77c KWH this Summer on LI

It's idling anyway for the winter to maintain temp and in the winter the the electric coils could be turned down instead of maintaining 125°f.
