In an effort to frustrate the spambots,

we'll be using a random number system for Wall posts. This will start very soon. When you start a session, the system will show you a random series of numbers and letters and ask you to type them into a box. It's case-sensitive, and you'll only have to do this once for each session. Once you're on the Wall it won't ask you again. If you close your browser, it will ask you again the next time you want to post.

It's a bit of an inconvenience, I know, and I apologize for that, but it will cut down on the spam.

    Thanks.
    Retired and loving it.

    Don't apologize!

It sucks that the predators out there force you into having to use tactics like that!!!!! Inconvenient? Maybe, but a small price to pay for all that I receive from this site.

I appreciate all you do to continue making this place as great as it is, Dan!

    Spam, it's what's for dinner.

I dont know about anyone else, but I have never gotten much spam. I have always used a legitimate email address and have never changed it to foil the bots. At no point have I gotten large amounts of spam. One here and there, but that's easy enough to take care of and I have no idea where they got my address. Are people sure their spam is coming from posting here?

  • I sure hope so!

Thanks Dan for doing this and I sure hope it will reduce the numbers of spams ( 35 to 50 a day!) I'm getting and I've told my service to do something about it!

    Spam stinks

To tell you the truth, ever since I started using Firefox as suggested here spam has been much less of a problem.

Dan, I have bookmarked the wall itself. Should I change my bookmark to start on your homepage to get the benefit of your new random access number?

  • they must have

They must have know u are "moving", Dan. After making the reply post to the home depot thread, I got a noification on my email stating my message can't or won't be delivered due to the networking bs problems. I re checked the thread and my message got thru... So more spams coming your way, people...

    Me too

Every post I made last night showed up on my e-mail as undeliverable but they were all there.

    Hmmm...

Since I use a unique e-mail address for every web-site I post on/use, I have a pretty good iddea where spam originates. While I got my share of spam directed to my heatinghelp.com email address, the volume pales in comparison to the occasional "Joe Job" that my domain is subjected to.

    That's Life....

We will all get through it, if we stick together.
