Federal Boilers is out of business.If the boiler is pre 1979 the chances are it does have asbestos. The older the boiler, the greater the chance (like 100%). The external insulation may be fiberglass, but the combustion chamber is no doubt asbestos. Insulation that is a whitish to gray color is asbestos. It could be corrugated asbestos cardboard or an asbestos paper or just asbestos mud packed on it. The gaskets are asbestos rope no doubt. When asbestos is involved, it should be removed professionally. You could end up breaking 10 federal laws.

I am trying to find out about a boiler one of my customers is trying to replace,It is about 40 yrs old.
All i need to know is if the unit has aspestos in it or not.

Series FD2200
900,000 mbh
anyone know how to get ahold of who produced this boiler
any advise will be greatly appreciated

Federal was a steel boiler company that I think is out of business. Chances are the covering on the outside of the boiler may contain asbestoes as well as the insulating block behind the combustion chamber.
