How much water to drain weekly from steam boiler?

When I drain water from the low water shut off each week, how much should I drain? I know that adding too much water is bad for the boiler since it introduces fresh oxygen, so since I need to add water after this weekly process, what is the right amount?
A quart?
A half-gallon?
Thanks,
Steve

Every one to two
weeks you should check the LWC by having the boiler running then flush down the LWC until you get clear water the burner should shut off at the same time if not you may need to get a pro out to service the LWC.
At the beginning of each season a pro should look over the boiler including cleaning the pig tail on the pressure switch, check draft, flue, combustion etc.

?
Do you know if you've got a float or probe-type low water cut off?

if you don't....
flush enough out you won't be cleaning the float and you could end up w/ a LWCO that is stuck in an up position when you have a low water situation...a gallon or two evry week to 10 days in an already open system is not going to make that much of a differance....the boiler needs the lwco protection....or else its lifetime could be shortened by dry firing....kpc
