mass code LWCO on HW boiler?

I'm pretty sure the IMC requires it. Just checked. 1007.1 General. All steam and hot water boilers shall be protected with a low water cut off control.

If you are under the IMC, there you be.

mass code LWCO on HW boiler?

did an oil boiler a while back with an indirect; plbg inspector started to go on how I needed a lwco. Said "next time..."

    was he for real?

How about a boiler with radiant heat underneath, but here's a twist: there's a hx between the two systems.

    Thanks, gary

He is for real and get used to it because if it hasn't been in your area it probably will be soon. The requirement for a LWCO on "every" hot water boiler has been in the International Plumbing Code since 1998 and is currently enforced in 8 Eastern states that I am aware of. We have made provisions in every one of our new boilers for plugging a pre-wired LWCO directly into the harness. They call for it to be above the outlet of the boiler, as close as possible and with no valve between boiler and LWCO. They have been a requirement here in Rhode Island since the 1980's. Several of the LWCO manufacturers are now equipping their LWCO's with premade harnesses that simply plug into the vent damper connection plugs or into a jack provided for by the boiler manufacturer. Hope this helps.

As usual Ma. uses there own codes. They adopt some codes Electrical, gas nfpa 54 & 58 and then make "MAss. Changes" to them. The oil burner code and boiler codes are written speifically for Mass. I beleive.

Not only that EVERY plumbing and gas product fittings, valves--you name it has to be MA. approved.

I don't think we will be seing Propress for gas any time soon.
