New system

I purchased a converted church a few months ago -- Eastern Pennsylvania - forced air oil heat -- two units - one larger than the other plus an oil hot water heater - 3 ton Central A/C on the larger unit. All the units are together in the lower level -- main duct work runs are under the slab for the larger unit :(

The whole place was spray foamed and the 3 ton unit actually cooled the place in 100 degree heat when I was looking at it!

In addition, I have a one story 1800sf studio located about 25 feet from the back of the house -- it is on a slab -- hanging vented propane forced air units with two 100gal propane tanks.

The systems are a mess and are old (except the studio) -- the whole thing needs to be replaced. And to add to all this I have two oil tanks underground (checked - no leaks)

I do not have gas service - so it is oil or propane.

I just had a Bryant Evolution zoned system installed in my mother house -- If I had gas service I would really be looking at that system -- very nice for forced air! Boy is it quiet! and it really works with zones!

I know nothing about propane sysems and the thought of having a 1000gal bomb out back does not thrill me.

I was thinking of putting a Buderus oil burner in the studio to heat both it and the main house. That way I do not have the sound of the unit in the house and it can be close to the new above ground tanks. Is it crazy to try to pipe the boiler water underground to the main house for DHW and I would think two new Heat Pumps with hydronic coils?

One of the slabs in the studio needs to be fixed - I was going to add radiant out there anyway.

From what everyone tells me -- propane is very expensive.

But- will I be trying to do too much with the one boiler?

I did call two local installers -- one was lost the other (the oil delivery Co) is going to work on a heat loss. But - I did not want to waste a lot of time (mine and others) without giving this some thought.

When I purchased my current house it was also a mess - I installed a Buderus G224 gas unit and DHW with all the controls - I used a mix of panel/ and pex radiant -- with great results. But it took some time to figure it all out.

Any thoughts? Oil/ Propane
