vaporstat

The vaporstat's giving you good results so it always will. Basically, if the system is giving even heat distribution in mild weather (with all those cold starts) then you're home free. Remember, the pressure doesn't govern the heating effectiveness, but the ability of the system to fully saturate with steam. The latent heat of steam actually increases with decreasing pressure. I'm sure the radiators are large enough for your home's heat loss, so there's no point at all in increasing the pressure.

vaporstat
After all this time it seems like I have found (thanks to the wall) the missing link in balancing my steam system. I switched from a pressuretrol to a vaporstat. What a differnece! Farthest radiators would hiss loudly when they opened up, enough to wake a dead man. I have set the vaporstat at 2-3 ounces for starters and it seems to have worked fine. If the weather gets colder do I have to change those settings? I was worried that I would get a lot of shortcycling, but that has not happened. What a difference and thanks. ed0
