Shutting water pump off????

Yes you can shut down the pump.......providing your boiler is equipped with a low water cut off. You can shut off the incoming water to make sure the water doesn't get past the backflow preventer ( I hope you have one if there is antifreeze in the system.) Most low water cutoffs have an alarm circuit that could be wired to an alarm. Freeze alarms do work but you get what you pay for. I think your best bet is a central alarm system that can monitor all these items and get word out ASAP when a problem occurs.

Shutting water off to boiler
I have a seasnal home. Had problems shutting it down completely. I am keeping the house set at 52 degrees. Can I shut down the well pump or will that cause a probelem with the boiler. I have oil 2 zone hot water system. there is antifreeze in the circulating water. also have a aqua coil attached to the system. my fear is that the system will fail like it did once and the pipes froze and the pump pumped itself to mud. I also have a freeze alarm. How reliable are they? thanks for any input.0 -
As you leave the house, flush the toilet or run water until your pump runs...when the well tank gets full and the pump shuts off, kill your breaker. This will limit any spill to 5-10 gallons and give plenty of make up water for your heating system barring any failure...which is what the LWCO is for. Yes, by all means, use a good freeze alarm or security system.0 -
for the cost of oil,
i would work on being able to shut the house down completely.0
