you know what is going into the concrete...some of the fillers are acidic...not good for the longevity of the copper tube...are you soldering joints in the tube? kpc

    Building a 30x40 pole barn one zone 12' foot ceiling.I'm going to be using copper in concrete. What type of pattern is recommended. Grid style,last supply first return,or sepertine. Boiler will added at a later date. Thanks

    Why are you using copper? What's wrong with PEX not to mention its way cheaper!

    Nothing wrong with pex. Wow I said that. Actually I have the copper already.

    If you have enough copper to do .....

    If you have enough copper to do 1,200 sq ft, you could sell it at a scrap yard and probably have enough to buy the pex required AND the boiler!!!!

    Back to your question.........What size copper tube do you have to work with? The diameter will dictate what type and how long your loops are.

    Many patterns

    Once you know your heat loss and density there are about a half-dozen patterns you can use, single serpentine, double-serpentine, denser perimeter spacing, interior fill, spiral coil...

    There are some good books out there, worth checking into. The RPA site, this site and Siggy's site has several. Lots of variables for spacing, depth, diameter, flow rate per circuit... and this all stems from the heat loss.

    You of course will use a vapor barrier and protect the copper from the concrete, right?

    Thanks for the input Copper for the runs is 5/8" O.D. type L. Mains will be 1-1/4" And yes I do like copper more, call me an idiot but bought way more than needed at the time of building the house,back then it was cheap.

    Yes will use vapor barrier,2" high density foam board have that too. Perimeter will be 2" foam held in by 2x12's,6" of base and 6" of concrete no fly ash and reinforced with re-rod.

    Just had to ask...

    The 2" sounds good especially at the perimeter. Nice bed of concrete too!

    By the way, I use LoopCad which is a fun tool for layouts and what-if options. Not if you are designing one system for the cost, but a fun tool nevertheless. And the RadPad too of course.

    No fly ash in concrete and all joints in concrete will be brazed (sillfoss)15%. Have a swedgeamatic so 1 joint instead of 2 aka. no couplings.
