    Mod = modulation = the ability to match heat output to heat loss.

    Con = condensing = the ability to extract the energy contained in the water produced by combustion before it exits the flue.

    Especially in the UK, it can mean "modern conveniences", as in "This house has all the mod cons". So a mod-con boiler is a mod con.

    contrary to popular belief it is not a modern confabulist...

    the words that are being used are real and do have meaning :) it just sounds like a foreign language *~/:)
