another stupid question

I have a closed loop system with an 80 gallon water heater I initially ran return to top of water heater and was told to change to bottom of water heater. Would it be wrong to just install a tee at water heater and add on to piping and extend to bottom of tank basically mixing the water or should I cap off top hole in water heater and repipe to bottom.

    Not so stupid, BUT

Jimbo, your last question got a lot of responses...but the picture was worth a thousand words, no valves, no thermometers, so to speak, and overhead piping that looks like it's asking to collect air rather than get rid of it. In other words everyone is just guessing till the picture, we all assumed you installed valves and a few other things. So I suggest you find an experienced plumber and start trading hours or something.
No one really understood what was going on till we saw the picture, and when we did you have to start making changes before you can progress further. Most likely flow is being adjusted by the resistance of the longest loop and thus most of the flow is in the shortest loop. Obviously an unacceptable arrangement. Send a picture of what you have at the moment, send a picture of the other thing as soon as changes have been made, and start speaking with your local rep about heat calculations and tubing layouts, before you start. Not to sound harsh I am just typing very fast and trying to keep it short.

The water heater should have a dip tube that takes the cold water to the bottom of the tank. The way I do recirc. lines is to bring the loop line into a check valve then tee in to the tank at the cold water supply. Best Wishes J.Lockard

Re-pipe correctly or you will kick yourself for not doing it if it still acts funny. Did the plugged / kinked loop clear? Did you add the required 30# safety relief valve?

Just a guy running some pipes.
